The Nuthouse Mix

Five years is too long!  Given the absence year, and impact of the last year specifically, there may not be a more appropriate mix title than “This Side of the Nuthouse”.  Also, when combining drops from 7 and 8 year olds with some of hip hops grimiest street rap, the nuthouse isn’t all that far away.

This time is also special as this month marks the 10th anniversary of The Urban Brigade.  That deserves a cheers to our founder, Jay Marvelous who has kept the dream alive for a decade, and to every one who has either contributed or supported us.  Happy Anniversary TUB!

Enough of the pleasantries… is time to present some of my favorite hip hop from the past year.

2020 treated us to new music from several golden era icons such as Nas, Busta Rhymes and Gangstarr (RIP Guru).  We also had worthy releases from modern classic artists like Cole and Jay Electronica,  while a newer generation featuring the likes of Benny the Butcher, Ransom, Dave East and Sa-Roc kept our favorite form and sound of hip hop alive.

To tie this all together, in TUB tradition, we have some updated guests to provide the narrative drops.  The last time we heard Colin he was still learning to talk and we are pleased to introduce Coralie to the TUB family as well.  Don’t worry, if you listen closely, you might even hear a now teenage Coco providing a drop.

So grab some almond milk egg nog, circumaural (over the ear) headphones, light a tree or menora or a kinara and enjoy the music that has kept us on this side of the nut house through one hell of a leap year.

Happy Holidays from The Urban Brigade!
